Thursday, June 24, Day 49
Fairplay to Silverthorne, Colorado (37 miles)
The temperature range this morning is a low of 45 to a high of around 75. Beautiful, clear skies. This will be the best day of our trip because we cross the Continental Divide. The Continental Divide is located in the Rocky Mountains and designates the line at which waters flow either to the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans. The North American Rocky Mountains stretch more than 3,000 miles from British Columbia in Western Canada to New Mexico in the southwestern United States.
Steve and I are very excited and begin the climb.
Our climb was a thousand feet over the last four miles. Amazingly enough, it took a little less than an hour.
Voila…there we were at 11,542 above sea level.
