Ted sent me some notes he was making each day of his travels. He had hoped to post these notes himself but is unable to because of circumstances beyond his control. So, I am posting the notes for him.

Wednesday, May 12 Day 6
Royal Oak Resort, Blue Ridge State Park to Camp Bethel, Fincastle, Virginia (70 miles)

Today started in Blue Ridge State Park, Royal Oak Resort. Nice Sunny Weather. Temperatures in the 60’s and many hills. We had a 3-1/2 mile drop to Vesuvius, Virginia. It was an extremely severe drop (a thousand feet in 3 miles). Once we arrived in town, we went to Gezties Store for our second breakfast. We have to be very cautious about eating enough calories to offset the burn we make daily while riding. Our calorie burn approaches 6 to 7 thousand calories. Eat your heart out, ladies (and you fat guys).
The food was good and quite inexpensive…it wasn’t Cracker Barrel, but it sure satisfied my wants that morning.
While in Lexington, we split our forces. Phyllis and Steve went food shopping while Jerry, Ted and Terri continued on to Camp Bethel.
Then the fun began. Monsoon…yeah, that’s what it was except we were in Virginia and not Thailand. It rained so hard, it hurt. To thwart the pain, we had to seek cover and fast. We, Jerry, Terry and me, saw an overpass for I-81 and we took refuge. Steve and Phyllis found a barn that gave them safe haven. The heavy rain continued to well into the afternoon not only dampening our spirits, but also putting us behind schedule.
We had to continue the trek in the rain. We were chilly but the movement helped us heat up a bit. All of a sudden, the sun burst through the clouds and the heat came on. I had to shed some clothing and by the time we reached Camp Bethel, I was in an undershirt.
What a pleasant surprise awaited us. The camp gave us a cabin that had plenty of room for our group. And then the rain started again.
