May 11 Charlottesville to Love . Virginia
This is the day that told me we would all make the journey.Steve Kurek was put on the side lines and had to wait for parts for his bike to be repaired. The best start he could hope for after he received the part was noon time.It became almost 2:00 PM before he got on highway. The rest of us left Charlottesville at 7:30 AM.We had an overcast which then turn to rain which then turn to cold.We stop at the "Cookie Lady " house in Afton. Jean Currey started feeding and housing bike riders since 1976 a very famous stop on our trip.We had a very hard clime to her house then onto the Blue Ridge Parkway. As we started on the BRP it started to RAIN wind and cold all at once.B.y 3:30 we were 6 mile into the Parkway.Stick a fork in us we were done. We stopped at the Ranger station. This is the start of the nice people parade.First Jim at the station help us get in touch with Keith Smith owner of the Royal Oaks resort in Love. The town was 10 miles west of us. Keith came down with his truck and put bike and 3 of us in it.Jim also helped, he put a bike and one person with him.We arrive at Royal Oaks to a nice warm cabin and hot showers yea! Needless to say we all slept well.Steve stop at Afton that night at the Cookie Lady's house...Till next time Bike Ted
